Minister of Petroleum Witnesses the Celebration of the 33rd National Petroleum Day
During the celebration of the 33rd National Petroleum Day, the anniversary of restoring Sinai petroleum fields in 17 Nov. 1975 as a result of October 1973 victory,Eng. Sameh Fahmi, Minister of Petroleum, announced that the support of H.E. President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak led to an unprecedented petroleum quantum leap in various domains of oil, gas and petrochemicals industries. He noted that, the successive changes witnessed by oil markets in light of the global financial crisis, are faced by the Petroleum Sector with new mechanisms and advanced economic perspective to reduce its future impacts and continue to go forward with the Egyptian Petroleum industry at such crucial time, where the energy issue is of great significance not only at the domestic level, but also at the global one, stressing the importance of concerted efforts of all the Sector's workers to carry out assignments to meet the challenges. The Minister indicated that, 2009 will witness the production of the 1st offshore drilling rig, conveying natural gas to Aswan and the commencement of commercial production of Al Sukkari mine along with producing 8 tons of gold compared to the 7 tons that were produced over the last century. He clarified that, the successes achieved by the Egyptian petroleum companies abroad; awarded the contracts of 43 projects at 13 foreign and Arab states, leading to a strong demand from major international companies from Russia, Hungary and Tunisia which are willing to share the Egyptian companies in implementing several petroleum Mega projects. During the meeting, the Chairmen of EGPC and petroleum companies reviewed the achieved work results and performance indicators over 2007/2008. Mr. Fawzi Abdel Bari, Head of Petroleum Workers’ General Syndicate , mentioned that the interest and support of the Ministry of Petroleum to the workers in the Sector, affording all bolstering features for improving their status and providing them health and social care, considering them the real wealth of the Sector, trying to raise their qualifications by continuous training and being acquainted with the most updated technologies and developments in the petroleum industry.
