Arab Natural Gas transmission Pipeline

First Phase (Arish-Taba-Akaba) Their Excellencies President Mubarak, and king Abdullah II, have inaugurated the first phase of Arab Natural Gas transmission project ( Arish- Taba – Akaba ) on July 27th, 2003. Through this project Egypt will join for the first time the club of Gas Exporting Countries. The first phase of the project aims at supplying Jordan with its needs of natural gas . This phase extends from Arish to Taba and then to the Jordanian Aqaba port through Aqaba gulf where the land part of this phase expands 248 km length & 36 inch diameter, from Arish to Aqaba gulf, south of Taba . Hence the maritime part expands from the south of Taba to the Jordanian Aqaba port with 16 km length and 36 inch diameter, 850 meter into the deep water of Aqaba gulf . The capacity of this line is about 10 billion cubic meter annually. The investments value of the first phase of AGTP is estimated US$ 200 . 75% of these investments is financed through the Arab funds institutes , under facilitated conditions. The Kuwaiti fund for Arab Economic Development has granted a loan of 100 million dollars , in addition to a loan of 50 million dollars from the Arab Fund for Social & Economic Development . Second Phase (Aqaba – Al Rehab , Jordan) The second phase of the project , which also aims at satisfying Jordan's local gas demands , expands northwards from the Jordanian Aqaba port to Al Rehab city near the Jordanian- Syrian borders , about 393 km length & 36 '' diameter. The Estimated Investment cost of this phase is approx. 300 million dollars . According to the plans, the Egyptian coalition companies are to finish this phase by the end of December 2005. By the end of April 2005, the progress rate was 80% .
